Kogo galerii; NOBA
Tiina Sarapu is a glass artist in whose work glass is primarily an installation and sculptural material, but on the level of ideas an intermediate stage between the visible and invisible world. Sheet glass is often the starting material for her works, from which, by means of a seemingly simple bending, a three-dimensional form has been created. The edges and surfaces in these are at once independent yet interdependent elements, and thanks to the transparency of the glass they form a complex multi-layeredness. The spatial layers of glass in Sarapu's works often carry the meaning of layers of time. Tiina Sarapu studied in the Department of Glass Art at the Estonian Academy of Arts, from which she graduated with a master's degree in 1996. Since that time she has taught in the same department, and has been a docent there since 2003. She has taken part in numerous exhibitions, symposia and workshops both at home and abroad. Her works are held in the collections of museums and private collectors. Sarapu has been awarded the honorary title "Tunnustatud klaasikunstnik 2004–2005" ("Recognised Glass Artist 2004–2005") and the Kristjan Raud Prize in 2007. She has received recognition at several international glass art competitions. (M. Bukovec) (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
