Riho Kuld (1936) is familiar to most residents of Tallinn from his white "Raadiotuvi" ["Radio Dove"] (1975) on the wall of the radio building. He appeared before the Estonian art public in the wave of modernism in the mid-1960s and was one of the renewers of Estonian sculpture. Riho Kuld's sculptures, with their baroquely playful movement, are effective through their rich structures and precise composition. His work brings to Estonian sculpture a complex movement and a perceptible dynamic force that is fairly exceptional among the Nordic countries. Among Riho Kuld's monumental works, particularly outstanding in its modernist innovativeness are the Kuressaare monument to the victims of fascism (1965) and the Tehumardi obelisk (1967; both created together with Matti Varik). He has received the Kristjan Raud Prize (1973). (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
