Aime Kuulbusch-Mölder (1942) entered Estonian art life at the beginning of the 1970s. In connection with her work, one can speak of a revaluation of aestheticism in sculpture. Her figures and portraits, with their restrained form and masterful surface treatment, connected with the aesthetics of the new generation of the early 1970s. Her portraits created in the 1970s of young Estonian artists and intellectuals – among them, for example, Juhan Viiding, Malle Leis, Tiit Pääsuke and others – can be viewed as a collective portrait of the entire generation of creative intelligentsia of the time that stood in opposition to the Soviet regime. The portrait sculptures created in the 1970s–1980s, as well as memorial monuments to cultural and educational figures rendered in a portrait-like manner, follow the aesthetic canons established in the 1970s. As a material she has preferred bronze, but has also created decorative chamotte figures and used plastic and aluminium. In the 1980s she became one of the most prolific monumental artists. Aime Kuulbusch graduated from the Estonian SSR State Art Institute in 1969. She has been awarded the Kristjan Raud Art Prize (1983) and named Honoured Artist of the Estonian SSR (1984).
