(ZED) Eduard Zentsik was born on 26 December 1975 in Sillamäe, Estonia. Eduard Zentsik is a prolific and many-faceted Estonian artist. He has developed several different artistic personas and does not tie himself to any single style, technique or theme. Instead he mixes different media and genres and playfully overturns traditions. Zentsik's oeuvre is diverse and extensive. Some of his undertakings, for example the somewhat eerie 'art brut' series, focus on the physical metamorphoses of the flesh. Others, such as the symbolist surrealist paintings, emphasise the spiritual aspects of Zentsik's philosophy. Here and there the artist uses Pollock-like splashes of paint or experiments with digital media. Zentsik's paintings contain an open space, a magical reality in which beings, objects and concepts, seemingly freely chosen from various eras and cultures, fulfil enigmatic purposes. No mythology or esoteric teaching is immune to the artist's delicate manipulations – in Zentsik's work Zen goes hand in hand with Tao, Krishna, Christ and the gods of Olympus.
