1939–2009 · Estonian sculptor (1939-2009)
Eesti Kunstimuuseum; Eesti Teatri- ja Muusikamuuseum; Underi ja Tuglase Kirjanduskeskus

trained at Estonian Academy of Arts

Ants Mölder (1939–2009) was active as a modernist sculptor mainly in the 1970s and 1980s. His characteristic playful approach to semi-abstract forms led him to experiment with various materials, of which aluminium and epoxy resin were especially characteristic of Estonian sculpture in the 1970s. Ants Mölder has also created decorative forms and figures from wood and marble. His mahogany sculptures have received special attention. Small-format drawings made in various techniques reveal to the viewer the sculptor's schemes of thought from the time preceding the completion of one or another sculpture. Memorial medals, awards and small forms make up a significant part of Ants Mölder's oeuvre. Second World War monuments created by him in the 1970s can be found in Estonia's public space.
