1982–
NOBA; Osta Noort Kunsti
Liisi Toom (born 1982) has studied communication and psychology at the University of Tartu and works on a daily basis as a coach and lecturer in the field of psychology. She came to art in 2019, becoming acquainted with the works of Estonian women abstractionists (Hinn, Liivat), which left a deep impression on her. Toom's abstracts are a view of risks, changes, and the emotions arising in response to the volatility of contemporary times. Her paintings have successfully participated in “Tartu Young Art” organised by the Tartu Centre for Creative Industries and Art&Tonic (spring 2021) and in the “Buy Young Art” auction organised by Art&Tonic (autumn-winter 2021), and have been represented at the Tartu Art Annual Exhibition (2021) with the painting “Kontakt”. She began her studies at Robert Suve's art studio (2019) and at the same time completed the Museum of Modern Art's online course “In the Studio: Postwar Abstract Painting” under the guidance of Corey D'Augustine. She is currently improving her skills in various techniques (figures, portrait illustration, calligraphy) in further education courses in order to give her works depth and ambiguity. However, she mainly learns on her own, experimenting with different techniques and styles and trying to express her own introspection of the world.
