Kertu Rannula (b. 1997) lives and works in Tallinn. Through site-specific photo and video installations, she explores the relationships, signs and symbols between the contemporary human being and cultural space. Inspired by everyday life and personal experience, Rannula adapts to the world and its phenomena through her creative work. In creating her works, she often uses her own physical presence and takes on different roles. In doing so, she finds answers to her own questions, analyses and makes sense of the environment around her. In shaping her works, she considers it important to work with space, approaching materials and media experimentally. Rannula has earned a bachelor's degree in photography from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Estonian Academy of Arts. She has furthered her studies at the Iceland University of the Arts in the Fine Arts department and at PXL University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Belgium in the department of sculpture and installation. Rannula has participated in exhibitions in Estonia and abroad. Among the most recent are “snapchat dystopia” at Kanal Gallery (2022) and “memories -70%” at Riga Photomonth (2021). In 2020, she participated in the ISSP Residency in Riga, Latvia. (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
