Katrin Kabun

1966–
NOBA

Katrin Kabun (b. 1966) is a textile designer who lives and works in Tallinn. She graduated from Tallinn University Haapsalu College with a BA (2013, cum laude) and from the Estonian Academy of Arts with an MA (2017, cum laude), and continues her studies as a doctoral student at the Estonian Academy of Arts. For her master's thesis Katrin received the EKA Young Applied Artist Award and the award of the EKA competition for applied research and development works in the category of works improving societal well-being and/or the living environment. In her design research Katrin deals with questions of applying sheep's wool, as a valuable renewable resource, in contemporary product design. Her research is based on a certain apparent opposition — transferring the properties of sheep's wool, as an archaic material, into the language of contemporary design, and seeking, through design, means of applying the emotional and aesthetic values of wool and keeping them relevant in the context of today's sustainable design and living environment.
