1929–2009 · Estonian architect and architectural historian (1929-2009)
Eesti Meremuuseum; Virumaa Muuseumid
In 1966 he was entrusted with drawing up the restoration project, together with extensive research, for the main building of the University of Tartu, which had been partly destroyed by fire. In the later period he studied older stone architecture, mainly castles. In the years 1977-93 conservation-restoration projects were completed for the castles of Kuressaare, Haapsalu, Paide, Porkuni and Virtsu. The results are summarised in the extensive book "Eesti keskaegsed linnused" ["Estonian Medieval Castles"], published in 1993. (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
