Gert Guriev, who lives in Viljandi, is an architect and lecturer whose work focuses on public space, educational buildings, health centres and contemporary timber architecture. He graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in architecture and urban planning, furthered his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and expanded his approach to space with a micro-degree in painting at EKA. Since 2012, Guriev has worked at 3+1 arhitektid, where he has taken part in the creation of a number of significant buildings and environments: the Narva education complex, the Narva Academy of Security Sciences, the visions for Ülemiste City and the Narva education campus, the Võsu basic school and kindergarten, the Haapsalu basic school, the apartment building on Siili Street in Tartu, the apartment buildings on the Marienholm peninsula, the Seileri quarter in Pärnu, the Tapa health centre, the Suure-Jaani spa, and the spatial design of the permanent Estonia exhibition at the Estonian National Museum. His work has received considerable recognition. The Narva education complex, the Suure-Jaani health centre, and the Narva Academy of Security Sciences have been nominees for the EU Mies Award for contemporary European architecture; the Narva Academy of Security Sciences has received both the main prize of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia's architecture fund and the Arcwood special award for Building of the Year in Wood. The Võsu basic school and kindergarten has been awarded the Building of the Year in Wood. (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
