Siim Hanikat has studied at the Estonian Academy of Arts' Open Academy and at Tallinn University's Baltic Film, Media and Arts Institute. His works, which mostly depict female figures, are the artist's experiments, at various stages of the creative process, with a variety of materials and means, ranging from pencil drawing to graffiti. His works are interesting, colourful and lively. The viewer can sense how he searches for beautiful motifs and angles to turn into physical objects. Strong colours dominate his drawings, which, in addition to the charcoal-black tones used, often create a poster-like effect. It can be assumed that the colourful female figures do not wish to state a final truth — they are neither happy nor sad. Simply, on the day the work was born, they inspired the artist. The author has hidden concealed messages in the works; such hidden little messages seem to give the works a new personal dimension. (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
