Eesti Kunstimuuseum; Narva Muuseum; Tallinna Linnamuuseum; Virumaa Muuseumid
He worked in Lübeck, Tallinn, Gothenburg, Riga, Narva and Saint Petersburg, and was a citizen of Tallinn from 1701. In 1715 he again worked in Gothenburg, then in Riga and Narva, where he painted several portraits commissioned by Peter I. He arrived in Saint Petersburg in 1725 and began working at the court. He painted compositions and portraits and was known as a good copyist. In 1725 Catherine I bought four religious and allegorical paintings from him and commissioned six portraits. From 1732 he was a drawing teacher at the Cadet Corps, and from 1734-1736 a painter there as well. Commissioned by Empress Anna Ivanovna, he painted portraits of her father Ivan V, her sisters Praskovya and Yekaterina, Praskovya, daughter of Tsar Fyodor Alekseyevich, and Peter I and Catherine I. One of his earlier works, an equestrian portrait of Charles XII, was housed in the House of the Brotherhood of Blackheads in Riga. (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
