Tartu town councillor and painter. Graduated from the gymnasium in Tartu in 1876, studied oil and watercolour painting in his home town under Woldemar Friedrich Krüger and Julie Wilhelmine Hagen-Schwarz. Continued his art studies in Vienna under William Unger and in Berlin under Gustav Richter. Ran a brewery in Tartu from 1880 to 1897. Became a citizen of Tartu in 1881 and was a town councillor until 1897. Was a Tartu town councillor in 1888–1889. Worked as a bank official in Pskov, Łódź, Šiauliai and Riga from 1898 to 1920.
