August Joost (2003) is a painter who works mainly with figurative oil painting. He tries to understand whether historical painting techniques and forms of viewing can say something about contemporary bodies, values, games and realities. He wants to depict the violence necessary to fit into the normative bodily ideal, as well as a body collapsing under the weight of its own meaning. He graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts, Painting speciality, in 2026, and has received the EKA Young Artist's Prize in 2026, the Young Painter Prize in 2025, and the Astrid and Arnold Kalmus Memorial Fund scholarship in 2025. He is currently studying in the Estonian Academy of Arts' Contemporary Art master's programme. (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
