Born in St. Petersburg as the daughter of a surgeon from Tartu. Entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts at the age of 17. In 1882 continued her studies in Paris under Courtois and Collin, and thereafter under Mrs Skarbina in Berlin. (machine translation of the holder's Estonian text, unedited)
