He studied military science at the University of Tartu in 1815–20 and took part in the work of the drawing school. In 1826 or 1827 he was elected drawing teacher at the University of Turku, but declined the position. He lived in Tartu until 1841, where he painted portraits. From there he moved to Moscow, and later lived in Tbilisi. (V. Vaga, Kunst Tartus XIX saj., Tallinn, 1971; A. Lõugas, A. Allikvee, "Baltisaksa portreekunst Eestis 1750-1900", pp. 116 and 150) Geboren im Gouvernement Orjol. Studierte Kriegswissenschaften an der Universität Dorpat und gleichzeitig das Zeichnen bei K. A. Senff. 1827 bewarb er sich um die Stelle des Zeichenlehrers an der Universität Åbo. Er schickte Probezeichnungen dorthin und wurde auch angenommen, trat jedoch die Stelle in Åbo nicht an. Lebte in Dorpat bis 1841. Von Zeit zu Zeit beschäftigte sich mit der Kunst, vor allem mit dem Porträt. Lebte nachmals in Moskau und Tbilisi.
